Grosse Pointe’s Gone to the Frogs!
FrogsˇFurˇFriend is a result of a
collaborative effort of business and community
leaders who were seeking a unique way to raise
needed monies for two local non-profit organizations
- Children’s Home of Detroit and the Grosse Pointe
Animal Adoption Society. These individuals have
donated their time, effort, and skills to bring this
exciting community event to Grosse Pointe.
FrogsˇFurˇFriends featured approximately 50
oversized fiberglass frogs, festively adorned by
artists and displayed along major thoroughfares and
retail areas from mid-June through September 2005.

The Children’s Home of Detroit (CHD),
a non-profit organization established in 1836, is a
leading provider of specialized services for
children with emotional impairments, educational
deficiencies, and developmental disabilities. CHD’s
therapeutic residential programs and services are
offered at campuses in Wayne and Macomb counties.
Other major programs include The National Institute
for Trauma and Loss in Children (TLC), which trains
professionals and educators nationwide who work with
children who have experienced traumatic incidents or
significant losses; the Foundation for Exceptional
Children (FEC), an educational and social program
for special-needs children; and Youth Assistance
Services (YAS) community programs that help
adolescents who have committed first-time
misdemeanor offenses. Proceeds from
FrogsˇFurˇFriends will provide scholarships for
special-needs children attending the Foundation for
Exceptional Children (FEC) and for therapeutic
equipment. For more information, visit
www.childrenshomeofdetroit.org.

GPAAS was established in 1997 to
service the Grosse Pointes and neighboring
communities as a foster-based, non-euthanasia
organization that finds suitable homes for indoor
companion animals that have been abandoned,
surrendered, or found. The Grosse Pointe Animal
Adoption Society is solely supported by public
donations and does not receive any state or federal
funding. GPAAS is a recognized 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit organization. Pet adoptions are held
twice monthly at the Children’s Home of Detroit.
Proceeds from FrogsˇFurˇFriends will be used to
establish an endowment fund that will strengthen the
organization’s financial position and allow them to
expand and broaden their current community outreach
programs. For more information, visit www.GPAAS.org.

On October
8, the FrogsˇFurˇFriends Auction Gala will be held
at the Country Club of Detroit.
